Serifos has got a long history of mining. In ancient times it was mainly copper and silver and up to 1963 iron. Then the mines were closed as mining was not profitable anymore, but you still can find the remains of the mines in the southwest part of the island.

The remaining iron still produces a magnetic field on the island.

Serifos is rich in rare and beautiful minerals. It´s strictly forbidden to collect them, but even so it´s exciting to explore the resources or to learn about minerals on-site.
